The first and most important thing you need to know about Stencyl is the fact that it gives you the possibility of creating games, for web browsers or mobile devices, without typing any code. The application allows you to create, tweak, manage and use individual game resources in a well designed and comfortable environment. It comes in free and paid versions, for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

The games you create with Stencyl can be managed on the application's welcome screen, where you can also create installation kits, install extensions, start a crash course and more. Once you create a new game, a series of special sections will be made available on the same interface, in which you may create and manage actor types, backgrounds, fonts, scenes, sounds and many other elements.

Created elements can be customized in various ways, on separate tabs. It has to be mentioned that Stencyl offers a vast range of options for each individual element. For example, you may customize an actor's appearance, tweak its behavior, create collision shapes and you can even make various physics settings. Another interesting feature is the possibility of creating events, by combining and tweaking a wide range of presets, just like pieces from a jigsaw puzzle.

Stencyl provides support for various platforms. You can run, test and publish your games for Windows, Mac or Linux platforms, export them for Flash and even for Android or iOS-powered mobile devices. Furthermore, the application is capable of publishing your games directly on the web, on the Chrome Web Store, on the Mac App Store and in many other places.

Pros

The application allows you to create, organize and use any game resources you need. It places a vast range of customization controls at your disposal. Also, the application allows you to export your games for numerous platforms.

Cons

You can export your games only for Flash while using the free version. Stencyl's smart functionality gives you the possibility of creating games exactly the way you want to.
